Molokai for the 13th time

Molokai for the 13th time

I flew to Australia and gave a talk to 200 people on the Molokai race. I then flew to Hawaii and raced on the weekend. It was a relay race on the island of Kauai. I was partnered with Ken Collins and we came second to another South African in the KIA team Clint Pretorius and his Hawaii partner Eric Abbott. The race was held in trade wind conditions which are down wind.

The V10’s from China had all arrived on time and they are a pleasure to paddle. They are super light and stiff. Yesterday I paddled with John Dixon who was one of the designers of the V10 and V10 Sport and he went so well in the 20 to 30 feet ocean swells and the 24 knots winds in his new V10Sport. I also paddled with Joe Glickman who is also on one of the new V10 Sports. He is also going very well. I will be very surprised if he doesn't take 1 hour off his last year's time.

The winds have dropped which is a scary thought but I have looked at buoyweather  and the wind will be back by the weekend. They are forecasting 24 knots which will be a lot of fun. The opposition is going to be tough as usual. The main competition will come from Australia's Dean Gardiner 9 time’s winner of the race. Also Olympic gold medallist Clint Robinson I suspect they will give me much trouble in my quest to win my 12th Molokai.

I will keep you posted everyday from now on into the Molokai. Off to bed now and will be back tomorrow.
