Sea Kayaking

West Coast Sea Kayaks
Last weekend I attended the West Coast Sea Kayak Symposium in Port Townsend, WA. I taught on-water forward stroke clinics and also a session on paddle training and strategies. We had a great weekend. It was great to see many paddlers on the water demoing boats, paddles and taking classes. I even managed to get in a few early morning training sessions.

I enjoyed catching up with the staff from a couple of our Northwest dealers, Cascade Canoe & Kayak (South Seattle, WA) and Deep Cove Kayak (North Vancouver, BC).

Everybody was talking about Freya Hoffmeister and her circumnavigation of Australia. She’s now about ¾ of the way around and continuing to make good time. Her craft of choice is the Epic 18X Sport with an Epic Small Mid Wing paddle. I look forward to seeing her complete the record breaking expedition later this year!

We’re working hard on our sea kayak line. It’s disappointing that our new Trackmaster Plus rudder system did not reach production boats this season, but we’re pushing to fine tune the production so that we’ll have them by the end of the year. Keep following my blog to see other advances in Epic sea kayaks coming over the next year.

The next major event for me is the Mayor's Cup in New York City on October 18. I plan to race the Mercer Island Sausage Pull in Seattle as a warmup the prior weekend.
