Picture of the Week - A Whales Tale!

Hawaii is an incredible place to paddle, and for more than just the surf. We have been seeing whales almost every time we go paddling here on the Big Island. A few weeks ago, about 1.5 miles offshore, I jumped in off my ski just to listen to the music they make. The next thing I knew there was a whole pod circling around us! I dove under right after the first picture of me next to the ski, just in time to see the big guy (or gal) go right underneath me! I would have given anything to have a mask and snorkel. The sounds were just incredible. The clearest and loudest I'd ever heard...something I will never forget. The pod circled us for a good inspection, about 5-10 minutes, and then headed off over the horizon.
