A Look Back - Molokai 1985
With Molokai 2011 fast approaching, a look back at one of the early races is a fun way to see how the iconic event has grown over the years.
"Molokai Mayhem" is written by Australian champion paddler Greg Bennett, and gives a great first hand account of his 1985 race across the famed ocean channel, battling it out with two legends: Oscar Chalupsky and Marshall Rosa.
An interesting point made by Greg: "The use of a racing Kayak for your lead up work is almost useless. It will make you fit, but won't develop your surf sense in a boiling sea." The article really makes a distinction between just being paddling fit, and being "Molokai fit".
Enjoy!
